Indianapolis, Detroit, and a wedding worth the drive

I had just finished photographing a wedding in Indianapolis when the call came in: a fellow photography team needed coverage for a wedding outside Detroit. I said yes, packed up, and headed toward Michigan. The next morning, I walked into Laurel Manor to photograph Ramarra and Evan.

Their Laurel Manor wedding in Livonia had an emotional first look, rich burgundy details, and a reception that kept everyone moving. Chicago was my next stop, but there was a whole wedding to capture before I got back on the road.

Laurel Manor in Livonia and the Metro Detroit wedding scene

Laurel Manor Banquet & Conference Center is located at 39000 Schoolcraft Road, Livonia, Michigan 48150, in the Metro Detroit area. For couples searching for a Detroit wedding venue, Livonia is part of that wider search, and Laurel Manor deserves a closer look.

I arrived early to scout. The staircase caught my attention immediately, followed by the piano, the getting-ready spaces, and the room available for portraits. I was already thinking about where to place the wedding party and how to use the architecture around them.

For this wedding, the staircase gave us a striking setting for Ramarra and her bridesmaids. The height and railings framed the group, while the burgundy dresses stood out beside her white gown. A good location gives everyone somewhere to settle; their expressions do the rest.

Burgundy satin and a bridal suite full of anticipation

I met Ramarra's mom first, then the coordinator, and then Ramarra herself. She was warm, calm, and easy to work with. While makeup was being finished, I photographed the details and watched for the little interactions happening around her.

Her mother helping her into her gown became one of those moments worth slowing down for. So did Ramarra looking at herself in the mirror. Those photographs bring you back into the room, to the people beside you and the anticipation before everything begins.

The burgundy-and-white palette carried beautifully through the day. Satin bridesmaid dresses brought depth to the photographs, while white calla lilies and orchids kept the flowers elegant. Ramarra's lace gown, long veil, and crystal tiara brought the whole look together. She was ready for that staircase.

Evan brought the energy and then the tears

Evan seemed to know exactly how to make everyone feel welcome. He was shaking hands, hugging guests, and checking in with family. His burgundy tuxedo fit the day perfectly, and we made time for portraits as he adjusted his bow tie and cufflinks.

Then he saw Ramarra.

The first look brought tears to his eyes. After watching him work the room, seeing that reaction was especially moving. I kept photographing as it unfolded; the feeling was already there.

That is a big part of how I approach wedding photography. I enjoy creating an editorial portrait, but I am always watching for the expression that happens between directions. Evan gave us a moment they can return to long after the wedding.

A Laurel Manor ceremony followed by a full dance floor

The white floral ceremony setting brought the day's colors together around them. From there, the pace picked up: family portraits, cake cutting, table photos, and a reception full of people ready to celebrate.

Then Ramarra changed into a crystal-trimmed white mini dress, and the party found another gear. The full gown had made its entrance; this look was ready to dance. Before long, the room was joining in a dance number and giving me plenty to chase with the camera.

We also made our way to every table for photographs. I love having that mix in a wedding gallery: the couple at the center of the celebration, then the friends and family who filled the room around them. The dance-floor pictures bring the movement; those group photographs help preserve who was there.

Working alongside the videographer helped keep coverage moving smoothly as the evening unfolded. Between the food, the music, and the energy of the guests, Laurel Manor gave this celebration room to stretch out.

From Indianapolis to Detroit and onward to Chicago

After the wedding, the trip continued to Chicago. Indianapolis, Detroit, and Chicago were all part of the same stretch of work, with Dallas and North Carolina still ahead.

As a traveling wedding photographer, I enjoy getting to know a place through the people celebrating there. This stop gave me Ramarra's bridal-suite portraits, Evan's first-look reaction, and a dance floor I was glad to be in the middle of. Those are the details I took with me when I left Michigan.

I am based in Atlanta and available as a destination wedding photographer for Detroit, the Midwest, and celebrations farther afield. If you connect with the work, tell me where you are getting married. Traveling for your wedding is part of what I do.
